Kidspace Play Date

I took a half day from work today after feeling nauseous and dizzy all morning due to my gallstone* attack the night before. After picking up Andy and having some lunch I felt much better, so we decided to crash a play date already in progress at Kidspace. We met up with Meghan & Hailey, Suzie & Leo, and Alice & Tessa. Suzie has a yearly membership so she was able to get us all in for free! And let me just say that kidspace is an AWESOME place! I can't believe I hadn't been. I went as a kid for school field trips, but it was at a different location and much smaller. Andy and I didn't even see half of it, so we really want to go back soon.

Here are some pictures of Andy from my blackberry:

Andy playing with Hailey

He scores!

After our friends left we stayed for another hour checking out the place. Andy got soaked here! Next time we'll wear better shoes. Good thing I had a change of clothes & shoes!

Spent 15 min in playing with the wall at the entrance/exit.

We had such a great day. Best half day ever! Looking forward to going back soon. I know G said he wants to join us next time. Check out Meghan's blog for some super cute pictures of all the kiddos like the one below [totally swipped it off her blog!].

*So I have a gall stone. Found out at the ER at 3am last Friday. Horrible horrible pain that I wish on no one. And I now realize that this is a pain I've been having since I was pregnant with Andy. A LONG time. I will be getting surgery but that is still TBD.

The last 3 weeks

We've been so busy I have been unable to blog about all the awesome things Andy is doing now. By far the biggest news to report is that he now has TWO teeth! Not 1, but 2! About 2 weeks ago tooth #1 finally broke thru. It was a rough weekend and it cause my poor little guy much pain. But I am happy that we had no fever, only 1 loose stool diaper and minimal wake-ups at night. Other than that he took it like a champ! Tooth #2 broke thru a week ago and came in right next to tooth #1. So Andy now has his 2 bottom teeth. Exciting stuff! I mean we waited a whole year for this!

1st Birthday Recap

Andy's birthday didn't turn out exactly as we had imagined.

The 2 days leading up to the big day had us on edge. You see, we had planned a nice gathering at the beach. Nothing too big or too fancy, but full of fun. 2 days before the big day the news started to tell tales about "bigger than normal" waves at the beaches and closures all around...including our beach. By Friday the closures had been lifted, but we continued to see large crowds gathering at the beaches to catch a glimpse of these "bigger than normal" waves. We worried that the beach would be too crowded and we may not even find a space big enough. Ha. Little did we know.

On Saturday, July 25th, we [us, Robert and Chris] headed out to the beach at 10am thinking this was early enough to get a good spot. We had just been there 2 weeks ago and the crowds hadn't shown up till 2pm. As we cruised down PCH we began to notice that many of the beaches already had many large groups camped out. The worrying commenced.

We parked and noticed many of the lots where either full or half-full. Not good when it was barely going to be 11am, and the evite stated 12pm as the party start time. The beach was loaded with people! The news did not lie, the waves were amazing, but not amazing enough to shut down the beach.

G found us a great spot on the beach. It was large enough for our two pop-up canopies with plenty of sunny space. So far so good. And then noon arrived and we were still the only one's there. I called my mom and they had just left the house. *breath* I was pretty ticked considering I had warned them about the crowds and she was bringing most of the food. We then began to get messages via BBM, text and twitter that people were stuck in major traffic just minutes from the beach. *breath* Did I mention there was a surf competition at the next beach down? *breath*

[Andy had a grand old time during all this. He splashed in the ocean, threw sand up in the air, watched the kites fly, etc.]

At 12:30pm our only guests arrived - G's Dad's family. Our only guests you ask? Yes, our only guests...at the beach party. What happened? Our guest began arriving one after another, after spending 1.5-2hrs in traffic, only too find all the parking lots had closed and there was no street parking for miles. At this point G & I had to make the executive decision to move the party. But to where? Ideas were thrown around....phone calls were made...in short my uncle offered up his home, complete with a pool, since everyone was in their bathing suits anyway.

Most guests followed us on this wacky adventure. Many drove another hour back to my uncle's house where we ended up with a pool party. Some stuck around at the beach and got lucky and found parking. I didn't blame them. I was more thankful they had made the trek out.

So much stress that day, but in the end Andy smashed his cake and had a great day. He could care less where we were. And that is what matters.

A HUGEMONGUSOID thank you to everyone that drove to Bolsa Chica and sat in traffic in an awesome effort to celebrate this day with us. I don't think Andy's 1st birthday will every be forgotten.

Andy definitely enjoyed our 2 hours at the beach.

Smash Cake! I made the 3 layer cake from 4in cake molds. Topper was from Etsy seller OhMyGlueStick. Andy had little interest in eating it but he sure did a great job smashing it!

Do I look like my mommy?

I don't think Andy looks very much like me. Maybe a little. When I was born I totally looked like a sumo wrestler. No joke...not very cute either. Unlike Andy who was the cutest newborn.

Here I am on my 1st birthday. I was one chubby baby!

I can see Andy's face in this nekid bath picture of me.

My eyes were still blue in this picture. There is another set from this day but I can't find it. They look more blue in the other set of pictures.

By this portrait session my eyes had lost the blue and moved towards hazel.

So what do you think? Aside from being white like me and following suit with my color eyes...does Andy look like his mommy?

4th of July

We spent 4th of July at Brookside Park in view of the fireworks show at the Rose Bowl. Family tradition. Unfortunately G wasn't able to join us this year since he had to work, but we made the most of it anyway.

Andy had a blast at the park. He was crawling and cruising all over the place. Going from person to person eating and playing. He really tired us all out. Here he is getting his first feel of dirt.

I was pretty worried about the fireworks show. I wasn't sure how Andy would react. But I worried for nothing because he did great! He just stared at the big light show very seriously. Almost like he wasn't sure how to react to it all. I held him tight during the big/loud ones, but he was totally fine.

So much so that he fell asleep half way thru! He must have been REALLY worn out. Andy isn't the type of kid that falls asleep anywhere. He needs a quiet bed.

All in all it was a great day. Perfect weather. Looking forward to next year!

Do I look like my Daddy?

You be the judge!

I think Andy definitely resembles G in this first picture [G's 1st bday party].

Next I'll post some of my baby pictures!

G wearing the Universal Studios Tee

Here is [baby] G wearing the exact tee that Andy wore for his 11 month pictures. I'm not sure how old G was in this shot since it is a Polaroid and has no date on it. I'm thinking this was in early 1982.

11 month pictures

Andy is sporting a vintage tee from Universal Studios (Copyright 1979). This was his dad's tee. Later I'll post the picture of Gerardo wearing this tee when he was a kid.

Happy 4th of July!

10 months

I realize that this post is extremely late. Especially considering Andy will be 11 months in 10 days! Bad mommy blogger.

- you still have no teeth [although we are officially teething.
- you're finally holding your bottle...lazy.

- you love broccoli

- you love cheese. tortillas, bread, any CARB! I think this may bring back my chubby baby.
- you love birds
Dad & Andy

Catching up...

First, we'll post some stolen pictures from Andy's playdate earlier this month. You see, Andy has many cute baby friends and we want to show them off! I took an early/long lunch on a Friday so that Andy and I could be in South Pasadena for our park playdate. Best idea ever! I really need to use my camera more - here are 3 pictures I "stole" from Meghan [Hailey's mommy] who has more pictures on her blog so go check it out!

Andy & Hailey

Me & Andy

Maya & Leo

The rest of this post will be random blackberry pictures Gerardo and I have taken of Andy throughout the month.

Andy and my dad. Loves spending time outside with his grandpa.

Andy enjoys listening to LL Cool J. Seriously.

Andy LOVES shopping carts, but maybe he just loves all the attention he gets from fellow shoppers.

Loves the swings.

Still working on getting him to hold his own bottle.

Crawled over to his great-grandparents and pulled up on their canes. Funniest thing.

1st broccoli - loved it! Couldn't get enough.

Favorite past time - bird watching with my dad. Andy knows that as soon as abuelito is home it's bird watching time.

Cowboy plaid cotton shirt. So old school.

8 Months

Andy's new love is grass. He loves to feel it and cut it by the handfuls and then watch it slowly fall out of his hand.

So much to say that I can list it all. But you are not a little baby anymore! You are increasingly mobile. You need to touch and feel everything. You don't just sit wherever we put you. You lunge yourself forward or sideways to reach toys or anything else that looks interesting. You're rolling all over the place. You think it's fun to roll over in your crib in an attempt to climb out. Dad doesn't agree as you gave a big scare when he thought you were napping! Time to lower the crib mattress.

Right now it's all about you trying to get somewhere. I don't know what's gonna happen when you can actually get there on your own. It's only a matter of time before you start crawling. I know you are. You like getting on your hands and knees and rocking back and forth. The thought of baby proofing our tiny apartment scares the crap outta me. It is so not kid friendly. Oh well!

You are growing like a weed! Almost out grown your infant car seat that goes up to 30 inches. You're a big boy. You're also waving now. Last night you waved to me when I put you in your crib. Silly baby. You have also been seen clapping - a rumor to me but apparently "others" have witnessed it.

Andy, I can't wait to see where this month takes us.
